Steppin' Out: Half Hasn't Been Told

2013- Half Hasn’t Been Told re-imagines the shared histories of Black Americans and Native Americans, as well as current societal circumstances relevant to the two via a fictional narrative that takes the actual facts of my Osage Great-great-grandmother's life as it's point of departure.

In May 2013 Project Row Houses along with the Visual Arts Network hosted Steppin' Out: Half Hasn't Been Told Mixer & Screening at The Eldorado Ballroom in Houston, TX. The public art event combined a public video art screening with an interactive, community supported art installation, in addition to intercultural Black and Native American food and music.

My Great-great-grandmother Addie: "What they teaching you in those schools?" My Father: "The say they're teaching us the truth.” My Great-great-grandmother Addie: "Ha! When it comes to the truth, half hasn't been written, and half hasn't been told..." Half Hasn’t Been Told is a digital collage based, mixed media narrative short that re-examines and re-imagines the shared histories of Black Americans and Native Americans, as well as current societal circumstances relevant to the two. The above is a trailer for the full work. Contact the artist regarding screenings/exhibitions of the complete Half Hasn't Been Told, 2012 (20 min. single channel video)
